Abstract

Over the past five decades, pest control has largely been based on the intensive use of synthetic pesticides. However, this type of use, coupled with mis management and the use of products of recognized danger, cause multiple problems that compromise the sustainability of different agrosystems, biodiversity, the economy of countries, as well as the well-being and quality of life of humans. This has been especially true for developing countries, where the value of pesticide sales is lower (20-30%) but the higher proportion of intoxicated (70-80%), especially in terms of lethal poisoning (>95%).
