Malecu indigenous community

Abstract

In the plains of the northern part of the country, one of the indigenous cultures is established that contains and preserves a large number of socio-cultural manifestations inherited from their ancestors and preserved from the oral tradition and the practice of the community itself.
For centuries, the Malecu community has preserved their customs, values, traditions, myths, and legends, transmitting them from generation to generation. It is not until recently that their language, some customs, stories and legends have been translated into written language thanks to the contributions of various researchers, indigenous teachers: Olger Marín, Noemy Mejía, Franklin Mojica, Eliécer Velas to the non-indigenous educators; the Malecu theater group and its director Mr. Leonidas Elizondo; the Malecu-Safu Association for Indigenous Development; the CIDE of the National University; but above all to the community in general, which has not fainted in preserving the fundamental features of its identity as a malecu people (children, youth, adults, women and men).
