Abstract
The definition of a drug is as ambiguous as the attitude towards chemicals. The one given in the dictionary is very broad and of no use: drug is any substance that is used in medicine or industry. In English they have limited this word to medicine and "narcotics", and in Spanish only to "narcotics". But as narcotic is what produces insensitivity and sleep, the word does not work either, since the "sinful" effect that we attribute to the concept of drug goes much further than the production of sleep or "insensitivity", which refers only to the disappearance of the drug. pain.
