Abstract

A few months ago, Octavio Paz expressed his disagreement on the term "postmodernity." Medievals, he added, did not feel medieval. Therefore, we cannot know we are "postmodern". But Paz forgot the Kafkaesque saying: the structure of a house can only be seen when it threatens ruin. And are we not now capable of talking about the structure of modernity? Paz also forgot that the Renaissance, the Enlightened, and the Marxists did know each other as parents, not children, of their time. Can't we be parents of a new time?
