Abstract

The name of this colloquium, Humanism and the Environment, could have also served as the title of my last book in which I collect the fundamentals of my philosophical system, Reflections on human life. Reflecting on human life is what philosophy has been doing, ever more neatly and deeply, since the Renaissance. Rather than giving birth again, which is what is routinely and repeatedly said, what the Renaissance does is innovate. It turns upside down what had come by mandate from antiquity: the general, the finite and the rest, and instead, it exalts, as only and truly real, its opposites: the individual, the infinite and the movement.
