Abstract

The meaning of the word taboo comes from Polynesian, it is synonymous with the Hebrew word "Kodosh", or "Sacer" of the Romans. The term taboo has two different meanings, sacred on one side and on the other: impure, forbidden, dangerous. Its most common meaning can be summed up in the sentence: don't do this, don't touch that.
It can be said that the taboo originated from torture and especially self-torture. The early taboos had close relation to the scars of honor of the prehistoric man. As there was no difference between the scars obtained on purpose, or through an accident in the war, those scars were declared private property by the war.
Not respecting this order was dangerous for anyone who knew how to challenge the owner of the scars.
This mandate was favored many times, because the man who exhibited the scars was the bravest and most powerful man in the tribe, in this case, he was blindly obeyed. The tribal chief to frighten the unbelievers announced that evil spirits would fall upon all people who did not respect taboo.
At this moment the sorcerer appears on stage, as his "magic power" favored the spread of different taboos. The more mysterious the taboo, the more power it meant to the sorcerer.
